Haras de Pirque

Haras de Pirque

Haras de Pirque is located in the easternmost part of the Maipo Valley, just at the foothills of the Andes, in one of the best terroirs for producing fine Chilean wines. Haras de Pirque fully represents the strong innovative character of the Antinori family and its desire to express Maipo Valley’s extraordinary terroir. The winery is designed to integrate gravity flow technology into all phases of wine production. This way, the grapes are handled as gently as possible, extracting only the softest tannins and preserving balance and precision under the eye of Cecilia Guzmán, the winemaker.

CHILE

Haras de Pirque deeply believes in the foundations of sustainability as a value of property for the environment and social responsibility.

Haras de Pirque seeks to create wines of excellence and unique made with the utmost dedication. Wines that really reflect the expression of the terroir that come in each bottle.

In 2006, the vineyard began the organic management of the vineyard in the Maipo-Andes, which was completed in 2016.

Viticulture

The vineyard is located south of the Maipo River between 550 and 660 meters above sea level, on the northern slope at the foot of the Andes foothills. The climate is semi-arid Mediterranean highly influenced by the proximity of the cordon cordon and the anticyclone of the Pacific Ocean that appear through the open valley giving this region characteristics that allow unique climate interaction. The entire vineyard is located in a vertical trellis position, which provides a better distribution of foliage and load, good ventilation and solar reception and ease of carrying out work during the growth period. After the harvest, which in Haras de Pirque usually ends in mid-May, the pruning period begins to obtain an appropriate distribution of the clusters in the plant, along with efficient irrigation technology and an appropriate use of organic fertilizers, the management of canopia begins in October to ensure optimal quality for the harvest. To ensure the attention of even small details, in Haras de Pirque the harvest is done manually, which means that the grapes arrive at the winery in perfect condition to be immediately processed, thus maintaining all its quality potential. Today, all the wines and vineyards of Haras de Pirque are organic, certified by the CERES institute, which means that in its production process only environmentally friendly products are used. Soil management is carried out exclusively by machines without the use of herbicides and fertilization is carried out by natural components such as compost. The wines are partially fermented with natural yeasts selected from the vineyard and thus making sure that the characteristics of the environment are reflected in the wine.

Winemaking

A unique horseshoe-shaped design symbolizes the passion for fine-blooded horses. Due to their location at the foot of the hill, the fermentation ships have a marked slope that allows grapes and musts to be processed by gravity, reducing the use of motor pumps and other equipment. This technique substantially prevents the risk of oxidation, softer tannins and the protection of the aromas and flavors of wine. Several projects have been developed with the aim of achieving a responsible and sustainable productive activity with the community such as the organic management of the vineyard, carbon footprint measurement and program of energy measures promoting training and professional development of workers, making job security a top priority. We are committed to a long-term vision that seeks to improve quality-oriented standards, in a socially responsible environment for its workers and with sustainable practices for the territory.
