Domaine de la Folie

We met Clemence in 2020. She and her husband Baptiste Dubrulle are the fourth generation to make wines here. The style is relatively traditional, with a generous bouyancy about the wines. Open expressions, a welcome embrace! Their vineyards are ‘future proofed’ against climate change with east and north/east facing slopes. The couple embrace the terroir, focussed on expressions of site over influences from oak.

Viticulture is sustainable, respecting both tradition and the environment, chemical herbicides are avoided and harvest is manual in small cases.

Dubrulle, who took on the estate with her husband Baptiste in 2010 – and whose great-great-grandfather first brought the estate to life – describes its contiguous 12 hectares (60 per cent made up of white grapes, predominantly Chardonnay) as ‘an ancestral gem’ and ‘the essence of Burgundy’.

She poetically rehearses the ‘contours of diversity’ which segregate her village sites from her two Premier Cru vineyards (both planted with white grapes).

Viticulture

ocated in Chagny in the north of the Côte Chalonnaise, the estate has 13 hectares of vineyards including the Rully 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques among the most prestigious names in the appellation. The wines of the estate express the elegance of the appellation, the finesse of our grape varieties (chardonnay and pinot noir), the character of the vintage as well as the freshness, a true signature of the Domaine de la Folie.

Winemaking

Viticulture is sustainable, respecting both tradition and the environment, chemical herbicides are avoided and harvest is manual in small cases. The wines, which are from some of the region’s finest single vineyards, are aged in steel or with oak barrels up to a maximum of five years-old depending on the cuvée. It’s wonderful to see this Domaine fulfilling their potential and showing that of the Rully region for producing, classy, pure wines of huge character
