Maison Auvigue

A forward thinking family domaine that despite having generations of winemaking experience have a modern and open-minded approach to their production. Jean-Pierre and Michel Auvigue farm their vines organically; the majority in Pouilly-Fuissé and rest in Mâcon-Solutré and Saint-Véran. There is a real focus on single vineyard expression, ‘each parcel is allowed to remain true to itself’. Experimentation with classical music in the barrel room, the judicious use of older oak and a quietly ambitious yet sensitive approach lend weight to the activities of this domaine and the wines they are producing.

The soul of Pouilly-Fuissé

Since its creation in 1946 to this day, Maison Auvigue waves loud and proud the flag of the appellation Pouilly-Fuissé. Starting as a reputable wine merchant, Maison Auvigue later became winemaker and then vine owner in the heart of the appellation.

In the early 90’s, the Auvigue brothers choose to vinify their own cuvées with grapes bought from their long-time producing friends. Maison Auvigue is now not only a wine merchant but also a winemaker. They also decide to buy 8 hectares of vines in the heart of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation and take the organic path.

In 2016, Sylvain Brenas-Auvigue, Jean-Pierre and Michel’s nephew, takes over the Maison with the firm intention of pursuing the family history : an unconditional love for the Mâconnais terroirs and a strong determination to preserve the environment

Viticulture

Traces of the Auvigue family in the Beaujolais-Mâconnais date back to 1629. Four centuries later, the family is still grounded in the terroir and gazing at the Roche de Solutré…

Winemaking

Since the beginning, Maison Auvigue has worked on the diversity of the terroirs to produce great wines on each of the identified lieux-dits. For each vintage, Auvigue “forgot” unique bottles, ageing patiently away from the light…but not from sight. Eyes are turned on a cathedral of barrels in which the cuvées patiently express themselves. Only the name, handwritten on a small slate, reveals the nectar and vintage inside…
