Rocche Costamagna

Rocche Costamagna

A 14ha estate run by Alessandro Locatelli who has worked hard in recent years to improve all parts of this estate. His aim is to offer an unmistakeable expression of Barolo from La Morra, enhancing complexity, elegance and finesse. Winemaking is traditional – twenty days of maceration post fermentation followed by up to 36 months in large older Slavonian barrels.

“Technique and not technology: this is the secret to creating quality wines.
You don’t just need equipment, but good and often innovative habits that, over time, have turned into traditions and experience”

Alessandro Locatelli

The choice of Rocche Costamagna is to work each variety and each cru in a different way to protect and enhance the natural characteristics of the vines.
Each cellar operation is carried out in compliance with the work of varietal expression conducted in the vineyard, in order to bring to the bottle the spirit and uniqueness that characterizes the different terroirs of La Morra.

“Our goal is to present a Barolo that has the strength of a classic,
able to tell a story that is always new and last over time.”

Alessandro Locatelli

Viticulture

14 hectares of vineyards, including 5 in the Rocche dell`Annunziata sub-area, one of the most prestigious cru of Barolo. We avoid pesticides and herbicides, resorting to alternative solutions for the care of the vineyard. Know well the rows, the stumps, the soils, the microclimate, know how to adapt techniques and operations according to the real needs of the plants, respecting their natural balance and bringing the fruits to full maturity, without stressing or forcing the rhythms of nature. this it is the synthesis of our sustainable viticulture.

Winemaking

Rocche Costamagna prefers sweaty and complex wines, rather than muscular and disruptive. This is to respect La Morra’s natural predisposition to give wines with an incredible feminine charm, an elegance that is expressed in the depth of perfumes and aromas rather than in potency, body or alcohol content
