Vintage 2016

Single Estate Vintage Port Individual Box, Quinta do Vesuvio, Symington Family Estates

Quinta do Vesuvio
Product Code: QV0216BX

Tasting Notes

Deep purple-black and inky in the glass, indicative of a voluptuous, blockbuster wine. It denotes opulence on the nose, with the richness and ripe blackberry aromas of the predominant Touriga Nacional. This is balanced with the distinctive minerality and floral fragrance of the Touriga Franca. It has a very fine structure and smooth tannins. The Tinta Amarela gives the wine a soft, velvety feel on the palate and the Sousão offers a sprinkling of peppery spice.

The precise identity of these, and the proportion each represents in the final blend, may not be known even to the winemaker. For some growers in the Douro region of Portugal, the ambiguity over what is in their fortified wines is not an attempt to protect some proprietary secret, but rather a matter of reality: they simply don’t know for sure what they have growing in their vineyards.

About this product +

Producer >

Quinta do Vesuvio is arguably the most magnificent estate in the Douro valley. Located in the beautiful and austere grape-growing region of the Upper Douro Valley, its history dates back to the 16th Century. All of the grapes are hand-picked, with a careful selection being made. Vesuvio is one of the very few estates in the Douro where all of the wines are made using the traditional treading method in granite lagares, among the largest in the Douro valley, and offered exclusively as a single Quinta Vintage Port.  Vesuvio is now ranked as one of the top-tier Vintage Port producers.
