Quinta do Vesuvio DOC Douro, Symington Family Estates

Product Code: QV06ZZRC

Tasting Notes

"Seductively fresh and floral aromas of rose, secondary notes of clove and very discreet and well-integrated smoky flavours, show a perfect harmony between the usage of oak and the rest of the aromatic bouquet. The rich and fruit filled palate (blackberry, blueberry, black plum) and natural acidity of the wine give it a good weight and balance. Refined and well present tannins provide the imposing structure we are used to in Quinta do Vesúvio wines."

            [Notes2] =>
            [Notes3] =>
            [Notes4] => Rich and plush, with a mouth-filling luxurious palate showing very attractive mineral undertones. Displays complex and subtle aromas of eucalyptus, bergamot and mint as well as a discreet hint of violets (very typical of the Touriga Nacional). Wonderful dark plum and blackberry flavours furnish the palate and the long, lingering finish offers traces of dark chocolate, mocha and cream, seamlessly held together by silky tannins and underpinned by very refined, fresh acidity.

            [ServingSuggestion] => "STARTERS - Cheese puffs, smoked sausages.
MAIN COURSE - Red meat, duck breast, intense-flavoured risotto."

As a blend, though, it really comes into its own. In Douro, Touriga Nacional is extremely important in the production of Port, even though it makes up just a tiny fraction of the grapes grown there.

Upper Douro Valley, its history dates back to the 16th Century.
All of the grapes are hand-picked, with a careful selection being made.
Vesuvio is one of the very few estates in the Douro where all of the wines are made using the traditional treading method in granite lagares, among the largest in the Douro valley, and offered exclusively as a single Quinta Vintage Port. Vesuvio is now ranked as one of the top-tier Vintage Port producers.
