Vintage 2021

Fixin La Place, Domaine Gerard Seguin

Domaine Gérard Seguin
Product Code: GS0221RC

Tasting Notes

Fixin is possibly not as famous as it should be. Made from approximately 40yo vines from just below the village of Fixin on the Route des Grands Crus. This is a very well made wine, it has anise and spice with dark ripe fruits and a pleasing purity, it is well rounded and balanced with a long finish.

[GrapeCharacteristics] => Young Pinot Noir can smell almost sweet, redolent with freshly crushed raspberries, cherries and redcurrants. When mature, the best wines develop a sensuous, silky mouth feel with the fruit flavours deepening and gamey "sous-bois" nuances emerging.

[Notes1] => Gérard and Chantal Seguin, along with their son Jérôme, run this 6.25 ha estate located in Gevrey- Chambertin. Whilst their principal vineyard
holdings are in Gevrey, they judiciously bought 2/3rds ha of
Chambolle-Musigny in the 1990’s and ½ ha of Fixin in 2006. The vineyards are run sustainably and most of the cellar work, especially the bottling, is done in conjunction with the biodynamic calendar. The fruit
here is de-stemmed, fermented in stainless steel for between 15-20 days and then aged in barrel, with up to 50% new oak, for between 15-18 months.

[Notes4] => This estate dates back to the 1800s, and it was Alexis Seguin who was one of the pioneers of grafting American root stocks following the Phyloxera crisis of the 1880s. Gerard, right, now manages the estate with his son Jérôme and they have gradually been adding new parcels of vines over the years and have built up an estate of 6.25 hectares primarily in Gevrey-Chambertin. Despite being a Domaine steeped in tradition, the cuverie and cellars were renovated and updated as recently as 2014. The vineyards are run sustainably with most of the cellar work, especially the bottling, performed in conjunction with the Biodynamic calendar. Their range includes a Fixin, which is a lesser known but interesting appellation just north of Gevrey that offers good value and early appeal. The Gevrey-Chambertin ‘La Justice’ is seen as one of the better sites of Gevrey with a lack of stones giving warmer soils and fuller wines from vines that are over 40 years old. We chose these wines for their opulence, as their quality and depth really shone through, ensuring enjoyment over the coming years

About this product +

Producer >

Gérard and Chantal Seguin, along with their son Jérôme, run this 6.25 ha estate located in Gevrey- Chambertin. Whilst their principal vineyard holdings are in Gevrey, they judiciously bought 2/3rds ha of Chambolle-Musigny in the 1990’s and ½ ha of Fixin in 2006. The vineyards are run sustainably and most of the cellar work, especially the bottling, is done in conjunction with the biodynamic calendar. The fruit here is de-stemmed, fermented in stainless steel for between 15-20 days and then aged in barrel, with up to 50% new oak, for between 15-18 months.
