Beaujolais displaying the individuality that can only come from a good single grower, is the exception rather than the rule. Lucien and Claude Lardy, based in the village of Fleurie, own 12.5 hectares of very old, carefully tended vines, divided between the cru villages of Fleurie, Morgon and Moulin á Vent. Instead of selling their grapes to a negociant, they bottle all of their production themselves and are justifiably proud of their award winning wines which range from light, floral and easy drinking to more powerful, complex wines.
Viticulture >
From a 2 hectare vineyard called Les Peloux, facing south east and on a deep soil of clay and sand. The parcel is planted with 100% Chardonnay vines that are 60 years old and at a denisty of 8,000 vines per hectare. The domaine, covering 14 hectares in total, follows the Haut Valeur Environmentale (HVE) charter for, meaning the creation of a biodiversity in the vineyard by encouraging the growth of flowers and planting trees and hedges around the parcels so as to attract insects as well as managing the use of water and waste.
