Vintage 2009

Château Léoville-Barton, St Julien (2ème Cru Classé)

Product Code: AN0309RC

Tasting Notes

The opulence of this wine proves it is the fruit of a sun-blessed vintage, yet with none of the excesses associated with this. The power is certainly present but not domineering thanks to the lively freshness and complexity. There are also hints of sugar, toast, tar and spices. 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22,5% Merlot, 0,5 Cabernet Franc

            [Notes4] => Well developed bouquet with hints of cedar wood and tobacco and showing lovely maturity. Medium bodied with attractive, elegant fruit; perfect balance and pure. A very classy 10 year old Bordeaux which is drinking admirably well, from a less fashionable vintage.

It has small, dusty, black-blue berries with thick skins that produce deeply coloured, full-bodied wines with notable tannins

                    [Notes1] => A trio of properties now run by Anthony Barton’s daughter Lillian
Barton Sartorius with the help of her two children Melanie and Damien. The Barton family name has become synonymous with the Irish connection in Bordeaux thanks to the activities of Bartons here since 1722. Following a more classic expression, the wines from these estates define restraint and elegance. Having avoided the wolfish price hikes seen in so many of the classified growths, these wines offer exceptional value. The family’s
acquisition of Mauvesin Barton and Melanie’s procurement of the role of Technical Director in 2013 truly demonstrates the involvement and interest of the next generation of Barton’s into the future.
                    [Notes2] => Bordeaux
                    [Notes3] => St-Julien
                    [Notes4] => Anthony barton has lived in bordeaux for 55 years, but he is no frenchman. indeed, he is an irish country gentleman transplanted to st julien in the médoc, where for over 20 years he has owned and run châteaux léoville-barton and its neighbour langoa-barton. barton has never had time for the greed that characterises so much of the bordeaux scene, so his wines have always offered exceptional value. we are delighted to offer the reserve de léoville barton, the second wine from both châteaux, along with the grand vin from châteaux léoville and langoa-barton.
