Cuvee Eiswein, Weingut Kracher

Weingut Kracher
Product Code: AK08ZZDB

Tasting Notes

All unoaked. Clean and bright, this isn`t on the heavy or unctuous side, but it lingers nicely, the finish laced with pineapple and peach nuances. It is pretty delicious, the lifted fruit all the more appealing because the wine is so fresh. As it warms, it shows gentle tension on the finish. The balance makes it easy to drink and hard to resist. These tend to age well, but this obviously has little track record.

[Notes2] => The Seewinkel is an area in the Burgenland region of Austria, approximately 20 km wide, along the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl. The villages of Illmitz, Apetlon and Podersdorf are situated within this reedy wetland, which is actually a natural preserve. It is an immense plain, with countless shallow lakes of various sizes scattered throughout it. Most of these lakes, including the largest, Lake Neusiedl, are less than five feet deep and this unusual terrain is often covered with dense fog, adding to the special charm of the region. The continental climate brings hot dry summers and very cold winters. These extremes are somewhat mitigated by the presence of the lake, creating a unique microclimate for viticulture. During cool autumn evenings, evaporation from the numerous lakes creates heavy fog, which covers the area until mid-day when the still strong sunlight burns through. This daily change of weather is the prerequisite for the special Botrytis cinerea, a nearly annual gift of nature, which makes the production of Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese wines possible. Alois Kracher’s vineyards stretch between Illmitz and the shore of Lake Neusiedl. The vineyards are planted at high densities in order to stress the vines, thus producing lower quantities at elevated concentrations. Traditional grape varieties include Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Traminer, Weißburgunder and Sämling 88 (Scheurebe).
[Notes3] => An amazing intensity of pure fruits and clean citrus acidity.
[Notes4] => An immense concentration of pure rich peach and apricot fruits, balanced perfectly by cleansing citrus acidity.

created a new style of sweet wine in Austria, based on fruit, finesse and balance. He insisted on vinifying individual vineyards separately, thus giving each wine an individual character. His wines became cult classics, loved by
critics and wine drinkers worldwide. Now his son, Gerhard who has worked with his father since 2001, has seamlessly taken on the mantle.

About this product +

Producer >

Alois Kracher was one of the world’s great winemakers: a visionary who created a new style of sweet wine in Austria, based on fruit, finesse and balance. He insisted on vinifying individual vineyards separately, thus giving each wine an individual character. His wines became cult classics, loved bycritics and wine drinkers worldwide. Now his son, Gerhard who has worked with his father since 2001, has seamlessly taken on the mantle.

Viticulture >

The Seewinkel is an area in the Burgenland region of Austria, approximately 20 km wide, along the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl.
