[Notes1] => Deliciously bright, fresh and crisp. Apples, lemon zest and hints of honeysuckle on the nose. Apples, gooseberries and limes on the palate. An interesting minerality balanced by soft, floral aromas. Silky finish and fresh, full bodied mouthfeel are indicative of a great Pinot Gris.
Our 2021 Pinot Gris was bottled on Valentine’s Day after minimal stainless steel aging to preserve the aromatics and freshness to create a lively and crisp wine. Beautiful bright aromas of citrus fruit, fresh lime and wild strawberry mingle in the glass with a hint of struck flint. The palate continues with grapefruit, fresh citrus and lime zest, followed by a touch of quince and wet stone, which leads into a vibrant lingering acidity.
[Notes2] => Located in the Dundee Hills region of the Willamette Valley in Oregon, the estate covers 16 hectares. Eight hectares are farmed with a focus on non-invasive vineyard practices whilst the other 8 are farmed biodynamically. The hills which lie 45 kilometres south west of Portland and 65 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean are protected to the west by the Coastal Range, creating cool yet dry growing conditions for the production of Pinot Noir as well as Pinots Blanc and Gris. The Pinot Gris comes from the Foley Family Estate vineyard as well as Eola Springs, Rock Hop and Huntington Hills vineyards. The soils a rich, volcanic soil mixed with silt, clay and loam providing excellent drainage. The estate is focused on creating healthy, vibrant vineyards via a variety of means; leaving aside approximately 50 percent of acreage for wildlife habitat, to promote biodiversity, employing leaf removal and canopy management to reduce insect pests and disease pressure as well as enhancing the character and balance in the grapes by improving sunlight and air penetration. Cover crops are also planted and add organic matter to naturally replenish the soil with nitrogen and increase the diversity of flora and fauna while preventing erosion.

[ServingSuggestion] => Seafood, smoked salmon, white fish in butter/cream sauces, salads, roast chicken, hard cheeses.
[WineMakingNotes] => The 2021 vintage will be remembered in the Willamette Valley for record setting heat and dry conditions. We sourced this pinot gris from our own estate vineyards in the Dundee Hills, the Van Duzer Corridor, as well as some of our favorite cool climate vineyards of the Willamette Valley near Mt. Angel. Most of the fruit for our pinot gris ripened quickly with fast increase in brix over a three week time- frame. The grapes harvested showed excellent ripeness and bright acidity.

[Notes1] => In 2003 Steve and Paula Black purchased vineyards in the Dundee Hills region of the Willamette Valley, Oregon. Of the 16 hectares planted, 8 are farmed with a focus on non-invasive vineyard practices whilst the other 8 are farmed biodynamically. The hills which lie 45 kilometres south west of Portland and 65 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean are protected to the west by the Coastal Range, creating cool yet dry growing conditions for the production of Pinot Noir as well as Pinots Blanc and Gris. In addition, the vineyards are planted on a rich, volcanic soil mixed with silt, clay and loam providing excellent drainage. In the winery, fermentation and ageing is done in in stainless steel for the whites and in French oak (15% new) for the Pinot Noir. These are rich, complex wines where the fruit is elegantly expressed.
