Terramater

Terramater

The Canepa family came from Italy in 1930 in 1996 the three sisters Edda, Gilda and Antonieta founded Terra Mater. Their Italian roots remain firmly in the wines, with Sangiovese and Zinfandel featuring heavily in their wines. Whilst they are winning medals for their Olive oils internationally, the wines have yet to be properly discovered. Their winemaker Paula Cifuentes, is timid, yet assured, something that shines through in her wines. The combination of old vines, a gentle winemaking style and determination is increasingly resulting in wines of surprising precision and finesse. Throw your prejudices’ aside, there’s a wine for every day of the week in this range!

Maipo Valley
CHILE

Where passion, affection and a long tradition in the wine industry define the way they cultivate their vines and make their products.

Their wines reflect the best that the terroirs, Isla de Maipo and the Curico Valley, can offer.

The name TerraMater – Mother Land in Latin – tells us a lot about the company itself. This is a company that was born from exceptional lands, covered by noble and well established vines of 50, 60 and even 70 years old.

TerraMater represents the perfect combination of traditional Chilean top quality winemaking practices, the search for innovation and the concern to achieve the very best our vineyards can deliver through the creation of wines which truly pay homage to the generosity of our Mother Earth.

Viticulture

Today, Alfredo Schiappacasse, Antonieta’s son, continues the family tradition, taking care of TerraMater, its lands and the people behind the wines and olive oils. Layer by layer formed terroir in 1946. Many years ago the lands of Isla de Maipo didn’t have much water, they were mainly sand and stones; where nothing grew, not even a thread of grass. But one day they would become lands full of life and water with a unique climate.Once the years passed, the sediment that the Maipo River brought from the Andes Mountains accumulated, aided by an ingenious irrigation system with parapets and the use of 60,000 hens to make the land ideal for viticulture. This is how a new terroir, unique and today fundamental to TerraMater, was formed layer by layer.

Winemaking

TerraMater is committed to mother earth and the community in the area. Sustainability is at the core of their production. Waste is reduced, reused and recycled. Our biological waste is composted and used as the main fertilizer for the vineyards. The fermentation process of our wines is carried out with a boiler that works with olive stones. All the industrial waters that we produce are treated for reuse in the irrigation of the vineyards. Glass recycling.
