La Braccesca

La Braccesca

Sitting on 508 hectares of which 340 are planted to vines, the wines of La Braccesca represent very different styles within the Antinori portfolio. Owned by Antinori since 1990, this estate strives to promote the individuality and high quality of the wines it produces. Seperated into two distinct blocks, the estate’s vineyards represent both Cortona and special parcels from Montepulciano – Cervognano, Santa Pia and Gracciano. The Syrah in Cortona is grown on specific clay soils, lending weight and concentration to the wines from here. In the winery sympathetic use of French, Hungarian and American oak add to the complexity of these wines.

Tenuta La Braccesca – with armor and sword

Since 1990 the Marchesi Antinori have been the owners of this estate, so idyllically situated, and with its total area it is the largest property of the family.

Due to its particular position between Montepulciano and Cortona, two hearts beat in La Braccesca:

on one side the traditional Nobile di Montepulciano, on the other the innovative, modern side of Syrah wines from Cortona, an emerging reality in the wine world with great potential.

Viticulture

The estate’s name comes from the historical farm that once stood there, owned by the Count of Bracci, whose coat of arms appears on the estate’s logo; an arm covered with armor brandishing a sword. Marchesi Antinori acquired the estate in 1990. The property extends over an area of 508 hectares (1255 acres) and the vineyards cover an area of 340 hectares (840 acres) divided into two blocks: the first is 366 hectares (904 acres) of which 237 (585 acres) are planted with vineyards and is located on the border between the cities of Montepulciano and Cortona. The other block is 142 hectares (350 acres) of which 103 (254 acres) are planted with vineyards, it extends all the way to Montepulciano encompassing three of the most famous parcels of land known for the production of great red wines: Cervognano, Santa Pia and Gracciano. Sandy loam rich in very fine gravel.

Winemaking

The aging cellars of La Braccesca are completely underground under the prestigious estate house and are divided into barrique cellars and barrel cellars. Here are barriques, tonneaux and barrels of different sizes, made of French, American and Hungarian oak, very carefully selected according to what wine they will then receive and bring to maturity. The use of stainless steel and wood, traditional mehtodes and the most modern technologies are used with a clear vision to the wine: the best characteristics of the past should be able to evolve and find expression in the present and future.
