G.B. Burlotto

A 12ha estate run by Fabio Alessandria the great-grandson of Giovanni Battista Burlotto. Having studied oenology at Turin University Fabio spent several harvests gaining experience outside Italy coming back to the estate in 1999. Fabio uses French oak barriques ranging from 4 to 34 years old, the finer grain gives his wine a tension and sheen that Slavonian oak can’t achieve. Burlotto produce some of the most sought after wines in Barolo

Every single bottle is the product of a journey

This is how we work today: acting after a journey of reflection and comparison between ourselves and with others. Each wine is born as the result of a path adapted to the circumstances of the vintage, the potential resources of the cru and the grape, the sensations it arouses as, in the darkness of the cellar, it transforms, matures, refines, and reveals itself.

We have always worked without the model of a “perfect wine” in mind, but not without a compass.

Viticulture

The family owned vineyards now amount to just over 16 hectares, distributed between 14 crus and four different municipalities: “our” Verduno, Barolo, Monforte d’Alba and Roddi. Of these 14 vineyards, half are located in the famous geographical mentions of Barolo, and our idea has always been to give them a reliable voice, guided by our interpretation of their most intimate disposition.

Winemaking

Delicacy and patience as instruments of labour – There are some fixed guidelines from which we do not deviate: the essential contribution of manual operations in the vineyard, the sustainability of our viticulture, the use of large barrels, the delicacy of our cellar work, the importance of patience and waiting, the trust that we place in the possibilities of each wine to give life to its own expressive journey, which we may not always be able to predict, because this is the essence of our work and what perhaps distinguishes it from that of all the others
