Bodega Magna Vides

Bodega Magna Vides

Magna Vides was born on the basis of its meaning, to do what you love with the ones you love. Returning to their roots, Pablo and Andrea have built on family holdings, expanding, collecting special plots and in 2005 Magna Vides was started. This project built on strong foundations of old vines and a respect for the balance of the vineyard yields wines, which are, in the words of Andrea ‘expressions of nature’. Using planting material from their own old vines, the focus is on preserving what was there before. The wines are blended from the field selections, picked earlier than neighbours, giving a lift mid palate and more precise fruit definition. They give an expression not just of the varieties but also site. ‘. We think they are complex and delightful, a triumph of the new generation building on work of the last.

“Magna Vides is to do with what you love with those you love”

Magna Vines are old strains, the size of a man.
It is also the most natural and sincere interpretation of the work we do in the vineyard and what it expresses, agile and lively wines, real and authentic.

It’s a dream of Pablo Arranz and Andrea Sanz – using as little intervention as possible in terms of treatments, seekinga balance between fungi and insects and promoting the most varied fauna, flora and fungi; an abundant biodiversity so that it regulates itself.

Viticulture

Just over 11 hectares of old vineyards in the places called El Sardal, El Hoyo de la Abuela, Sotillejo, La Fuente del Pez, Las Matillas, Majadas Verdes and Las Peñas. All the plots acquired in this town are between 70 and 110 years old. Plots are planted with a selection of wood from our best old strains, the most balanced, with the smallest and loosest clusters, taken from the poorest soils. That’s what we want to reproduce in our new vineyards. We also use invigorous rootstocks, and even on some sand we plant on foot. We are looking for a higher density of plants per hectare.

Winemaking

The work in the winery tries to be as careful as possible, with sensitivity, intuition, without oenological protocols, with the greatest respect for the fruit. Manual harvest in boxes of a maximum of 15 kilos, destem in each deposit. Manual lifts and bazuqueos. We ferment in small tanks and barrels, in order to perfectly control the temperature and maceration of each plot or variety separately. Soft pressing, separating the wines. Fermentations with indigenous and bio yeasts, spontaneous malolactics, aging in French oak barrels, 15% new and the rest used.Subsequent rearing in deposit and in bottle. Bottled on a biodynamic day, and rest until we take out the finished product. Our suggestion is the consumption from the age of wine to 12 – 15 years.
