Vintage 2014

`Licis` Do Ribeira Sacra, Frank Massard

Product Code: FK06ZZRC

Tasting Notes

"Licis 2013 is a very complex wine, with spicy aromas reminding of clove, pink pepper and cigar case and underlying crisp fruit notes like figs, plums and blackberries. In the palate is fragant, with spicy aromas, velvety tannins and a balanced acidity, resulting an elegant lively wine. A very good potential of ageing is expected for the next 10 years."

[GrapeCharacteristics] => Mencia is a red-wine grape native to the northwest of Spain. It is most commonly associated with the red wines of Bierzo, which were once light and astringent but, since the discovery of low-yielding vines planted on poor soils high on the hills, have become more intense and concentrated, attracting the attention of the wine-drinking world. Mencia wines tend to exhibit earthy, vegetal characters with berry nuances and stony minerality.

[Notes4] => Franck Massard is a French man making wine in Spain and at very accessible prices. Franck began his
training at the sommelier school in Saumur, in the Loire Valley. His early experiences saw him work as a
sommelier in some of the finest restaurants in both Germany and England. He subsequently spent eight
years working for the famous Spanish producer, Miguel Torres, travelling the world to educate
consumers about wine. He is also, with Christophe Brunet, the co-owner of a vineyard called Huellas in
the ancient and top quality area of Priorat and continues to work as a consultant for Miguel Torres.
He has recently started bottling under his own name. When we asked him for his views on organic methods he replied "I think we
should all be as organic as possible. In our region we are lucky to have the conditions to viably grow organic grapes. We are working
towards achieving 100% organic methods and will most probably receive our organic certification in the near future." His opinion on
the cork/screwcap debate. "I love cork as it is a natural product that has a long affinity with wine. However, I`d like to turn to
screwcaps for all wines destined to be consumed within a year and if we cannot guarantee the avoidance of cork taint I would like to
extend the use of screwcap to my all range."
