            [Notes2] => This 17 hectare estate is situated in the village of Uchizy, in the Northern Maconnais. Uchizy sits at the point where the alluvial plain of the Saone River begins to rise away towards the limestone rich hilly outcrops to the west. The soils around the village have a loam/clay topsoil over a limestone base. The climate is continental with warm summers and cold winters. The farming approach is minimum intrevention and harvesting is done by machine.

                    [Notes1] => Since 1997 Mallory Talmard and her husband Benjamin have continued to uphold basic tenets for producing excellent wine at their 30 ha estate, passed down from Mallory’s father Paul; ripe fruit from top vineyard sites, fermented in stainless steel with non-inoculated yeasts and at cool
temperatures. The result? Pure, fruit driven wines that are fresh and well balanced and that still represent some of the best values in the Mâconnais today.

                    [Notes4] => Uchizy is a small village in the northern part of the Maçonnais, where the
flat, rich alluvial plain beside the Saône River starts to rise towards the
limestone outcrops to the west. People have often either gone the route of
wines from Lugny, where the cave cooperative reigns or from communes
closer to the prestigious appellation of Pouilly-Fuissé. Uchizy on the other hand sits furthest away and although lacking the very
rocky, hilly sites sometimes found further south, there is often a more typically Burgundian character in the wines from this village.
Possibly this comes from the terroir but we tend to think that the people here are more humble and less pretentious and as a result
their wines are often purer, less adulterated.
The Talmard family traditionally only made one wine made from 100% Chardonnay but in recent years they have extended the size
of the domaine and with 30 hectares of vineyard they have now enlarged the range. The basic tenets that they relied on in the past
still remain however. Ripe fruit from excellent vineyard sites, fermented in stainless steel with non-inoculated yeasts and at cool
temperatures. The recipe hasn’t changed over the years but it has served them extremely well as they continue to produce pure, fruit
driven wines that are fresh and well balanced and that still represent some of the best values in the Maçonnais today.

                    [Notes2] => Burgundy
                    [Notes3] =>  Mâconnais

About this product +

Producer >

Gérald Talmard, cousin of Mallory at Cave Talmard, produces a very small range of wines from 17 ha of vineyard in the village of Uchizy, in the northern Mâconnais. Gérald’s philosophy has always been to keep things simple and to emphasise the pureness of the wines. The Mâcon-Uchizy is made from 100% Chardonnay and fermented entirely in tank.

Viticulture >

This 17 hectare estate is situated in the village of Uchizy, in the Northern Maconnais.

Winemaking >

"Sustainable viticulture . Certification Haute Valeur Environnementale. Mechanical harvesting. Temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats, Pressing, Use of indigenous yeast, Malolactic fermentation. Ageing in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, Fining, Light filtering, Traditional corks"
